New teenage health and wellbeing survey trialled

Source: Ipsos MORI published on this site Friday 1st November 2013 by Jill Powell

Around 7,000 teenagers will this week receive questionnaires in a trial of a new national survey on their health and wellbeing. The “What about YOUth?” survey is aimed at 15-year-olds and will examine topics such as smoking, emotional wellbeing, diet and physical activity, drugs, alcohol and bullying. The trial will scope the feasibility of a potential full-scale survey with responses from 150,000 teenagers next year. If this goes ahead it would become part of the Health and Social Care Information Centre’s range of statistics and would provide valuable information on the health and wellbeing of teenagers. This data will help a range of agencies and professionals who work with young people to understand their needs better. Because of the large scale of the proposed survey, results could be broken down to a local level. The survey has been commissioned by the Department of Health and is being carried out by Ipsos MORI.
